Poppy Houston is a London-based emerging artist and animator, known for her hand drawn animations. Using predominantly frame by frame techniques, her work is characterised by strong linework and colours and often features anthromophic characters stuck in worlds that they cannot excape. Her recent film Anna the Apple is an example of this, where we follow the emotive story of a young apple trying desperately to escape her threatened orchard in pursuit of a more natural world.
Artist Statement
As a 2D animator, I find immense joy in breathing life into characters and stories through motion. My primary focus is frame-by-frame animation.
At the heart of my work are often characters that are trying to escape a world where they feel they don’t belong. I believe that characters drive the emotional core of any animation. Storytelling and strong design are equally central to my practice; every project begins with a narrative that guides the visuals and shapes the audience’s journey.
