Poppy Houston is an animator, illustrator and children's book author based in London.
Storytelling sits at the centre of her practice: each project tends to begin as a poem or a short story, and grows outwards from there — through illustration, drawing, sculpture and animation — until each has built a small world of its own. She moves between these mediums without much hierarchy; a character might arrive as a verse and end up as a sculpture, or first appear in clay and only find its voice later on the page.
She recently published her debut children's book, Anna the Apple — a rhyming picture book about a small apple discovering her place in the orchard on the first day of spring, and the first of a planned four-book seasonal series.
When she is not building giant apples, she works as a Motion Designer in the charity sector.
